This one is for all the #BigBangTheory fans out there…
Did we know Sheldon is a synesthete? He sees numbers in colors and experiences them as scents. A Fudgesicle, he says, tastes like the speed of light.
Synesthesia can occur between just about any combination of senses or cognitive pathways. Synesthetes — or people who have synesthesia — may see sounds, taste words or feel a sensation on their skin when they smell certain scents.
Yesterday was the latest episode of Big Bang Theory…
There’s a scene when Sheldon is helping Raj look through computer data for any anomalies which may indicate a new space body discovery…Anyway, Sheldon almost instantly finds an anomaly, Raj is stunned and asks him how he found it so quickly. Sheldon then explains:
“You know how when you see prime numbers, they appear red, but when they’re twin primes, they’re pink and smell like gasoline?”
It really stirs something within me when main stream television gives some attention to these no-so-often-heard of topics and abilities. Big Bang Theory is a “guilty pleasure” of my husband and I. We have been a little different all of our lives. Oh, and just for the record, we really don’t watch much television. We just love all the references and the eccentricities the characters each have. 🙂
So, Do you know someone who is or are you a synesthete?
We’d love to hear from you. Share your story with us. 🙂
And Now, I must be off to tend to the day!
Have a Be.You.Tea.Full. Weekend!
