Stop the USDA from Approving GMO Corn by Commenting in The Federal Register
Wednesday, February 29, 2012
(NaturalNews) Thanks to massive pressure from the Center for Food Safety (CFS), a non-profit public advocacy group that is leading the charge in opposing genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended the public comment period on Agent Orange GM corn from February 27, 2012, to April 27, 2012. This means that now is the time to continue bombarding the Federal Register with comments of opposition to this deadly new Dow AgroSciences “Frankencrop.”
Back in December, it was made known to NaturalNews in an exclusive tip that Dow AgroSciences had quietly filed a petition with the USDA to deregulate a novel variety of GM corn resistant to the chemical 2,4-D, which represented half of the deadly Agent Orange herbicide formula used as a weapon during the Vietnam War to carpet-bomb Southeast Asia as part of Operation Ranch Hand. And if approved, this chemical weapon will soon be doused on millions of acres of American farmland to produce more toxic GM corn.
Providing absolutely no public benefit, 2,4-D-resistant corn stands to greatly pollute the environment and cause monumental health damage to those exposed to the chemical. According to research compiled by Cornell University
in New York, 2,4-D is a chlorinated phenoxy compound linked to causing reproductive disorders, birth defects, DNA damage, organ damage, and cancer (http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/24d-captan/24d-ext.html
). Beyond Pesticides
also says that 2,4-D is linked to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and endocrine disruption as well (http://www.beyondpesticides.org/dailynewsblog/?p=1285
The last thing the American food supply needs is to be laced with yet another GM crop that has been doused in a highly-toxic herbicide linked to a host of acute and chronic health problems. But the only way to stop this massive experiment in environmental and human poisoning is for the natural health community to sound the alarm about this impending threat, and leave comments of opposition to 2,4-D GM corn in the Federal Register.
You can leave electronic comments of opposition to 2,4-D GM corn by visiting the following link. Be sure to locate the “Addresses” section of the document for instructions on how to submit your comment.
The Cornucopia Institute has also created its own petition to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, former governor of Iowa who has long supported industrial agriculture and GMOs, urging him to oppose 2,4-D GM corn. You can access that petition here: http://www.cornucopia.org/say-no-to-dows-ge-corn/
Also, be sure to forward this article to your friends, family members, and co-workers urging them to sign the petition and leave comments in the Federal Register.
